Programs: Fashion Design, Design & Merchandising
Founded in 1891, Drexel is a private research university with 25,000 students, three campuses in Philadelphia, and one in Sacramento, California. Drexel’s top-flight Fashion Design program is recognized as one of the top 10 fashion programs in the United States and one of the top 20 programs in the world.
Their rigorous curriculum consists of a unique six-month co-op experience that complements coursework in conceptual design, presentation skills, CAD, and manufacturing methods. The curriculum covers all facets of fashion design, from men’s, women’s, and children’s wear, to swimwear and couture. Students are prepared for careers in fashion design, styling, advertising, computer-aided and technical design. Small studio classes, simulating the professional environment, represent the core of a students’ education, including final critiques.
National and International Competitions
Each year, Fashion Design students submit their designs to national and international competitions. A study abroad program at the London College of Fashion, during sophomore year, offers an international perspective of the fashion world. Students conclude their senior year studies with the presentation of their collection in the Drexel Fashion Show.
Since 1919, Drexel University has been known as a cooperative educational institution, with a large network of more than 1,600 corporate, governmental, and non-profit partners in 28 states and 25 international locations.
A great educational asset is the Robert and Penny Fox Historic Costume Collection which has become one of the finest teaching collections in the United States.
Furthermore, Drexel University launched its first Internet-based education program in 1996, and in March 2013, Drexel Online had more than 7,000 unique students from all 50 states and more than 20 countries, pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s, or certificate.
