Baylor University

Founded in 1845 through the efforts of Baptist pioneers, and located in Waco, Texas, Baylor is a private Christian university with 15,000 students who develop their skills within a 1,000-acre campus located on the Brazos River.

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences has made a huge impact since 1930, but the actual curriculum leading to a degree was established in 1933, and ever since it expanded to cover other areas such as studies in Apparel Design and Product Development as well as Apparel Merchandising. This program mainly enhances communication, analytical thinking, teamwork, and ethical behavior. Students learn to apply management and marketing theory and business principles to the global apparel industry.

With such a degree at hand, you have a variety of career options such as becoming a Buyer, Visual Display Manager, Wholesale Representative, Merchandise Planner, Retail Manager, Stylist, Marketing/Communication Manager, Entrepreneur, Production Manager, and trying many more jobs in the fashion industry.

Beyond classes, students enjoy educational summer tours and visits in designer showrooms, trend forecasting agencies, apparel manufacturers and museums across US, Canada and Europe. This professional experience is further reinforced by the Baylor University Fashion Group, comprised of students who attend fashion industry events, prominent professionals’ lectures and participate in the Career Day sponsored by the Dallas Fashion Group International.

Precious real-business experience is offered through the annual Baylor Fashion Show as well as the internship each one of the students is required to complete, before graduating, in New York, Paris, Los Angeles, Dallas, or any other city.

Baylor is a multi-cultural school welcoming students from the States and 89 countries, a nationally ranked research institution, and the oldest continually operating university in Texas. 90% of the students receive some form of financial assistance and 39% live on campus.

It is ranked #75 out of 262 national universities in the 2014 review by the U.S. News & World Report and one of the country’s 20 best fashion schools according to influential fashion blog Fashionista.com. The acceptance rate is 61%.
