Fashion Institute of Design

Founded in 1969 and located in Los Angeles, California, this specialized, private college dedicated to educating students for the Fashion, Graphics, Interior Design, and Entertainment Industries has 7,000 students and is regarded as an internationally recognized force in these studies.

Students learn the hands-on, technical skills such as fashion sketching, creative design, draping, and pattern drafting, along with the theoretical skills necessary to succeed in this incredibly creative and exciting field. This school offers a truly unique career-oriented and reality-based Fashion Design program taught by industry professionals.

Who’s Who of Fashion

Executives from fashion companies such as Juicy Couture, Guess Inc., Cotton Inc., Mattelâ„¢, and Disney are guest speakers and mentors for Fashion Design students. The Fashion Design Labs, where Project Runway Season 6 was filmed, are equipped with the latest state-of-the-industry software and technologies. Students leave the program with a portfolio that includes traditional sketches, Computer-Aided Design (CAD) sketches, and specification sheets.

The Advanced Fashion Design Program gives students the opportunity to present their own fashion collection to an audience of industry insiders at the annual DEBUT Runway Show and Gala Event which attract almost 10,000 people over three days.

Fashion Designers who have completed this program include Monique Lhuillier, Estevan Ramos, Nick Verreos, Leanne Marshall (Project Runway winner), Kevan Hall and many more.

Other degrees you might be interested in, are: Advanced Study Programs in Footwear Design, Menswear, Textile Production and Development or Theatre Costume Design, MS in Apparel Industry Management, AA in Fashion Design, as well as Fashion Design programs in Knitwear, Jewelry and Textiles.

A recent study showed that 90% of the eligible FIDM Graduates from all of majors and programs, found jobs within six months of graduating. Alumni from various fashion design programs include Lubov Azria, Lauren Conrad, Sassa Jimenez, Karen Kane, Santino Rice (Project Runway 2 finalist), Yotam Solomon and Kym McClay. The acceptance rate is 49%.
