It was founded in San Francisco in 1929, has over 18,000 students and is regarded to be the largest privately owned art and design school in the United States. It’s located near San Francisco’s Union Square, a world-renowned fashion shopping district.
Students learn in practice how to develop their unique talents with the help and guidance of top industry professionals. As a student you are given the opportunity to showcase your creations biannually at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center in New York City and annually at the Graduation Fashion Show in San Francisco. This is your chance to present your work to renowned fashion industry professionals.
If you are a Fashion Journalism and Fashion Styling student you will be working on the School of Fashion’s magazine projects and the Fashion School Daily Blog, as well as in international publications and websites.
Tech and Connections
All students do their work in a real-business environment with the latest technology and equipment. You can use everything from the latest in digital patternmaking to industrial-grade knitting machines, print your motifs on swatches or repeat yardage of fabric, and build up your designs on more than 120 women’s and men’s dress forms.
The University collaborates with international brands and recruitment agencies to secure you amazing opportunities for internships and jobs. Fashion graduates have been hired by huge names in the market such as Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren and Louis Vuitton.
Alumni include brilliant talents and successful professionals such as figurative painter Asencio, music video director Chris Milk, fashion designer Kara Laricks and staff photographer for the San Francisco Chronicle, Deanne Fitzmaurice, winner of a 2005 Pulitzer Prize. The acceptance rate is 100%.
