Parsons, The New School

Founded in 1896 and located in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Lower Manhattan in New York City, Parsons is a private art and design college of 4,200 students. One of the oldest schools there, the School of Fashion, ranks among the world’s premier fashion programs.

Parsons has launched the careers of illustrious designers who are synonymous with American fashion: Claire McCardell, Adrian, and Norman Norell; established industry figures Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford, and Narciso Rodriguez; and, from the new generation of global designers, Proenza Schouler, Behnaz Sarafpour, Doo Ri, Vena Cava, and Ohne Titel. At a time when success involves activism as much as innovation, Parsons integrates the fundamentals of design, craft, and marketing with civic and environmental engagement.

School of Fashion

The School of Fashion is renowned for the strength of its curriculum, which develops graduates with exceptional conceptual, design, technical, and marketing skills. It offers AAS and BFA degrees in Fashion Design, MFA in Fashion Design and Society, and AAS in Fashion Marketing.

Students develop a distinctive aesthetic sensibility along with diverse points of view that reflect the industry. The BFA in Fashion Design program has trained five generations of designers to lead the fashion industry. Through completion of the first-year curriculum, fashion design students learn and practice design fundamentals essential to further study.

2D and 3D Processes

They go on to develop a holistic approach to fashion design, embracing 2D and 3D processes, and continue to build skills in drawing and digital design. Senior year is focused on the thesis project and individual portfolio.

Fusion, an established event since 2000, brings together Fashion Institute of Technology and Parsons, The New School for Design, to engage in a school vs school fashion show competition. The school provides students with the industry knowledge and vocabulary they need to succeed while fostering a desire to bring about positive change in society.

Accreditation

Parsons and The New School are fully accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Parsons is also an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). About one third of the college is made up of international students hailing from 68 different countries.
